One Year. Two Builders.
A full year of running my kids’ days. Two builders in training, grades at the ceiling, and an afternoon they earned.
The nails are Sofi’s work. The hands are Miranda’s, on her laptop, deep in something of her own. Maxi is in the clip above: new haircut, the Italian cut, studies finished, feet up.
That is the afternoon in this house lately. The latest grades are 4.9 and 5.0, nothing lower. Colombian scale, five is the ceiling. The chill is paid for. Work first, then the rest, and the kids know the order.
The operation
The kids are homeschooled and I run the operation: what gets studied, when, how it gets checked, how it gets handed in. Modern tooling carries the repetitive part: the calendars, the tracking, the paperwork. The time I spend with them goes into the work itself, not the logistics.
The results are theirs. They write by hand, they present, they answer the questions. The system only makes sure nothing falls through.
They learn by watching
Neither of them was taught to use a computer in any formal sense. Fluency with a computer is not a course. It is hours next to someone who uses one for real work, and they have seen me build for as long as they can remember: terminals open, agents running, a problem taken apart on a whiteboard, something shipped by dinner.
So both of them are fluent. With the machine, with the tools, with the idea that if something does not exist you can make it. That is the build mindset, and it was never a lecture. If you want a builder, build where they can see you.
One year
September closes a full year of running their days. Studies, activities, sport, socialising, travel, art, music, dance, nutrition, health, values. Some of those are lessons. Most are logistics: where, when, how long, what to eat first. Each one is a system with a plan, a routine and a feedback loop.
It has been a good year, for the kids and for me.
We are building something here. I call it the Petreski empire. It is a year old and it has two builders in training.
