Thirteen Tonnes and a Clean Heart

One result is back from the panel and it is the good one: two ECGs, 104 days apart, and every number that matters is where it was. Then day one of the new block put thirteen tonnes on the board and made me sore in twelve hours.

One normal day: cutting phase opens on the stair climber, a wagyu ribeye goes in the pan with butter and garlic, and the peptides get mixed and pinned.

Stairs, wagyu, needles. That is the whole day in ninety seconds, and it is a fair summary of what this phase actually looks like from the inside.

The extended panel is still out. Twenty-one markers, drawn at 07:00 at home, and the hormone assays take about a week. So there is exactly one result back so far.

It is the ECG, and it is clean. Not clean as in nobody found anything — clean as in there is a baseline to hold it against, and nothing that matters moved.


The only result that's in

A single ECG tells you almost nothing. Two make a comparison — and this pair is an unusually fair one: same lab, same cardiologist, same machine, same time of morning, 104 days apart. One a week before the protocol started, one on day 98 of it. That controls a lot, though not everything: electrode placement, posture and breathing still vary between recordings, which matters later.

QTc is the number the whole exercise exists to watch. It measures how long the ventricles take to reset, and a stack that lengthens it is a stack worth re-examining. Three things in this phase could plausibly push it: an incretin agonist with gastrointestinal losses, a sustained calorie deficit, and six training days a week of heavy sweating in a tropical climate.

It moved one millisecond in 104 days. That is not stability, that is measurement noise pretending to be a delta.

QRS duration came back identical to the millisecond. And what was not on the tracing matters too: no pathological Q waves, no ST deviation, no voltage criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy, and no ectopy captured in either recording — which is a ten-second window each time, so read that last one as "nothing showed up" rather than "nothing exists".

Long-term androgen use combined with heavy resistance training is a combination worth tracking a ventricle through, and the tracing is where you start. But ECG voltage criteria are a blunt instrument — they are specific rather than sensitive, and not meeting them is not the same as an echo saying the wall thickness is normal. What day 98 actually buys me is a dated, comparable reference point. Everything from here gets measured against it instead of against a memory, and if the picture ever drifts, that is when imaging earns its place.

The one thing that did change, and why it is good news

One thing on the tracing is different from April: an isolated T-wave inversion in lead III. It is worth walking through, because the explanation is a nice piece of evidence in its own right.

Then look at which numbers moved. P axis verticalized 16°. T axis rotated 12°. Lead III morphology changed. Those are the three measures that shift when the heart's orientation in the chest changes — and I dropped roughly ten kilograms between the two tracings, which lowers the diaphragm and rotates the heart.

Everything position-dependent moved. Everything position-independent stayed flat. Two tracings cannot prove a mechanism, but that pattern is far more consistent with a heart that changed address than one that changed behaviour — and there is an obvious candidate for why the address changed. Electrode placement and breathing could contribute too. What it is not consistent with is a new electrical problem.


Resting heart rate keeps dropping

The other thing worth reporting is not on the tracing at all. It is in the ring data, which has been running continuously the whole time — ninety-eight nights of it.

Four beats off the overnight mean and two off the nightly floor, in a little over three months. That is the direction you want, and it is the kind of change a single measurement can never show you — it only exists as a trend.

Which is the general point worth taking from all of this: an ECG is superb at electrical timing and morphology, and useless for telling you where a three-month trend is heading. Different instruments answer different questions. Run both and you get a picture; run one and you get an opinion. Biohacking without longitudinal data is just expensive astrology.

One thing I am adding to the next panel. Twenty-one markers and no potassium or magnesium — two of the electrolytes that influence repolarisation. Worth being precise here: a normal QTc does not tell me my electrolytes are normal. It is a different measurement answering a different question, and you cannot infer one from the other. They are cheap, they are missing, and they are going on the next request.

Day 1 of Monster 2.0: less work, more work

Same week, first session of the new block. Verdict after one day: the thing I like most is the thing that looks like a downgrade on paper.

It is lower volume than the programme it replaced. That frees attention for the only two variables that matter to me right now:

2. Heavier loadsMechanical tension is the primary hypertrophy driver. Trimming junk sets is how you spend the recovery budget on tension instead of on volume for its own sake.

High-volume programmes let mediocre sets hide inside impressive totals. You accumulate exercises, sets, reps, sweat and fatigue; the session looks heroic; the target muscle receives surprisingly little quality tension. Past the productive range, extra sets add fatigue faster than they add signal. That is junk volume, and it does real damage — it drops the stimulus-to-fatigue ratio, degrades execution, and steals recovery from the next session.

Hot take: adding sets is usually the lazy option.

More volume lets you avoid the genuinely uncomfortable work — controlling the negative, holding tension at the stretch, moving a heavier weight without the rep degrading. Lower volume removes the hiding places. If there are only ten working sets in the session, every one of them has to be worth something, and there is nowhere to bury a bad one under a spreadsheet total.

Sore in twelve hours

Next morning: chest and back both sore. I am not counting that as proof of anything — soreness is a bad proxy for growth. You can generate it with a terrible workout, excessive eccentric damage, or any movement you have not done recently. None of that guarantees hypertrophy.

But it is a decent proxy for novelty, and that is precisely what I was buying by switching programmes. The repeated-bout effect is the mechanism: run the same movements and loading pattern long enough and the body stops being disrupted by them. Damage and soreness fall away even while the session is still productive — which is exactly why soreness disappearing does not mean your programme stopped working. Change the angles, the loading, the exercise selection or the execution demands and the tissue meets something unfamiliar again.

So: not evidence of growth. Evidence that the stimulus genuinely changed. Growth takes weeks of progression, not one morning of tender pecs.

One caveat on that 13,218 kg, because it is the number people misuse: it is summed logged load-volume — bookkeeping, not physiology. A kilogram on a cable crunch is not a kilogram on an incline press, and the assisted pull-up figure is an estimate. It is a useful comparison against my own future sessions and useless as a claim about session quality.

Ten minutes on the stair climber was deliberately a taste, not a dose. It was enough to establish that the machine is genuinely brutal and that the number is going up slowly.

Every session of this block now gets logged religiously into my own AI system — the training data lives in a private repository my agent reads and writes. That is not AI sprinkled on top for decoration. It solves a specific problem: human training memory is garbage.

"I think that felt easier." "I'm pretty sure I used 75 last time." "I've definitely been getting stronger." Those are feelings. Progressive overload is only real when it is measured, and 4 × 6 at 80 kg is a reference point you cannot negotiate with. The RIR next to it is an estimate rather than a fact — which is exactly why it gets logged as its own column instead of being folded into the load.

What the log buys that memory can't.

Separating adaptation from enthusiasm. Load went up — or the week just felt good.

Catching load rising while technique collapses. The spreadsheet says progress; the RIR column and the notes say otherwise.

Finding the exercises that cost a lot and stall for weeks. High fatigue, no movement — invisible without a history.

Cross-referencing against everything else. Sleep, bodyweight, deficit depth, HRV. The night after this session: HRV 36, resting HR 63.4 — the lowest reading in the fortnight. One night proves nothing on its own, but a hard first session on an eleven-hour fast, on the morning of a blood draw, was followed by the best sleep of the block so far.

An agent can organise evidence and surface patterns. It cannot rescue inputs you never recorded.

That is fine, and I want to be precise about why it is fine rather than just granting myself permission.

A missed session is noise. A missed month is signal. Adherence over months beats perfection over a week, every time, and it isn't close. There is also no prize for forcing a garbage session into a day that can't support it — I'd rather move the session, keep its intent intact, and log the change than rush half the work to protect a streak nobody is counting.

Agility protects adherence. That is the whole argument.


One normal day

The day closed with an order for the supplement stack from the hibernation protocol — no improvisation, no new compounds, and no conclusions drawn from blood results that have not arrived. The hormone assays still need about a week and I am not going to manufacture certainty while I wait.
